Get Creative With Your Recycle Bin-Week 2-Tins

Last week we started a new mini blog series (that’s what I’m going to call it) called Get Creative With Your Recycle Bin. Check out last week’s post here where we made jelly using an old plastic egg carton.

This week is all about tins. We go through so many tins in our house. Tinned tomatoes, chick peas, beans you name it and we have a pile of tins every week left over. I always think it’s such a waste to just chuck them so this week we made some new uses for our old tins by spray painting them in different colours and adding craft gems with glue to decorate them and make them look pretty.

You need to soak your empty tins in warm soapy water to remove the labels easily. Then dry off your tins.

I find spray painting is the easiest and quickest way but you could also use any household paint that you have. Those mini tester pots that you buy for €2 are especially handy for little craft projects like this.

If you do decide to spray paint make sure you do it in a well ventilated area and cover your mouth and nose with a mask or a teatowel.

You can then add on any little embellishments that you have to make them look pretty. I used these craft gems and a glue stick to decorate mine.

Et Voila!! I used my upcycled tins to store some markers and pencils etc.. but there are may other things you can use them for. Flowers, cutlery, Kitchen Utensils, Makeup get the idea!
